Privacy Policy & Cookies

Your privacy matters. This policy explains what personal information I collect through this website and in my counselling practice, how it is used and protected, and the choices you have. It is written to reflect the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Last updated: January 2026.

Who I am

I am Nadia Georgiou, a counsellor based in Rochford, Essex. For the purposes of data protection law, I am the data controller responsible for the personal information described in this policy. You can contact me at nadiageorgiou15@gmail.com or 07932 007848.

Confidentiality

I provide a confidential, person-centred counselling service, and what you share with me is treated with care. There are a small number of legal and ethical exceptions — for example, where there is a serious risk of harm to you or someone else, or where the law requires disclosure — and we will talk these through clearly so you know where the boundaries are.

Information I collect

I only collect the information I need to respond to you and, where relevant, to provide counselling:

  • The details you enter in the enquiry form — your name, email address and the content of your message.
  • Information you provide if you contact me by phone or email.
  • If we begin working together, the personal and health information you choose to share, brief session notes, and your contact and emergency details.
  • Basic technical information remembered by your browser so the website works and remembers your cookie choice (see Cookies below).

Sensitive information

Please avoid including sensitive personal data — such as details of your mental health, medical history, trauma or risk concerns — in your initial message through the website form. That form is intended for general enquiries only. Once we begin working together, any sensitive information you choose to share is held in confidence and handled with the strictest safeguards.

How I use your information

Your information is used to:

  • Respond to your enquiry and answer any questions.
  • Arrange and provide counselling sessions.
  • Keep appropriate records and meet my legal, ethical and professional obligations.

The lawful bases I rely on are your consent (when you choose to send an enquiry) and, for therapy records, the provision of health care together with my legitimate interests in keeping safe and accurate notes. Where sensitive information is involved, I rely on your explicit consent and the safeguards that apply to health data.

Cookies

This website uses a minimal amount of cookies and similar browser storage:

  • Strictly necessary. A small preference stored in your browser remembers whether you have accepted or declined this cookie notice, so it is not shown on every visit. This does not require consent.
  • No tracking by default. No advertising or third-party tracking cookies are set by this website.
  • If analytics are ever introduced, they will only run with your consent, which you can give or withdraw from the cookie banner.

You can change your choice at any time by clearing this site's cookies in your browser settings, and you can set your browser to block cookies entirely.

Sharing your information

I do not sell or rent your personal information. It is only shared where necessary — for example with my professional supervisor as part of my ethical obligations (usually in anonymised form), or where the law requires it or it is needed to protect someone from serious harm. Your emails may be handled by my email provider, and this website is hosted by a third-party provider acting under a data processing agreement.

How long I keep information

Enquiry emails are kept only as long as needed to respond to you, and are then deleted or archived appropriately. If we work together, therapy records are kept securely for the period recommended by my professional body and insurers, after which they are securely destroyed.

Your rights

Under the UK GDPR you have the right to:

Access. Request a copy of the personal information I hold about you.

Rectification. Ask me to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.

Erasure. Ask me to delete your information where there is no good reason for me to keep it.

Restriction. Ask me to limit how I use your information.

Objection. Object to how your information is processed in certain circumstances.

Withdraw consent. Withdraw your consent at any time where consent is the basis for processing.

Contact and complaints

To exercise any of these rights, please contact me at nadiageorgiou15@gmail.com. If you are unhappy with how I have handled your information, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

If you are in crisis or feel at risk, please contact your GP, NHS 111, emergency services or call Samaritans on 116 123.
